I must say, one upside to hanging out in a free-market fandom like SGA is that no one acts all shocked at the wank, and sometimes we get mockery fanfiction out of it.

For those playing wank home game, are the good guys winning? Are they up to the playoffs yet? Will there be any sort of Wank Superbowl? Or is it all just March Madness?

But you know SGA is an ECONOMY fandom and thus doesn't merit wankery.

*still don't know what an econmy fandom is*

It means we trade fic (or any other fancreation) for feedback. No love of the fandom involved it all; we're all just here to feed our egos and/or crack habits.

h0rz r us, essentially. ;)

I picture gangs of writers roaming the darker alleys, proffering drabbles to see the quality of feedback available before retreating to the deeper shadows to contemplate their next big move.

Me, I think it's a more honest wank when names are named. Gives the girls (or boys, if any) a chance to holler back, or graciously ignore what's going on.

Some wanks I've seen across fandom tick me off more with "well, everyone knows who I'm talking about" when I turns out that almost no one agrees on who the BNFs for a given fandom are, or what that really means, exactly.

What I've observed it to mean in the past was "person whose story situations and characterizations become fanon of varyingly entrenched degrees." I don't believe there's a decent writer out there creating fanfiction with the intention of defining fanon; it simply isn't something a good writer/storyteller sets out to do.

If there are readers in fandom who take a really good story to heart and say "wow, that's canon for me, now," bully for the writer. But shame on any reader who actually argues a point of canon on that basis. That's just delusion.
