When is Jenna "Clara" Coleman's contract up? Okay, two questions. And whom do we pay not to renew it?
Unlike every other Companion ever and I am definitely including Rose, this one has not grown on me. The new ep did not make me like her any more.
Peter Capaldi was friggin' brilliant, given what he had to work with.
Edited to make a minor correction to syntax and to add "Your mileage, of course, may vary."

Date: 2014-08-26 01:46 pm (UTC)I still haven't watched the last two series and keep debating on catching up since I've got time now. I never really cared for Amy, did like what I saw of Rory, and didn't like River Song since her first appearance with Ten. All of which seems to be things that brought the show to a new level of popularity. This is pretty normal for me, to be honest. I like a show and it finally hits the mainstream about the time I lose interest. But it's obvious a lot of characters and concepts from those two seasons will be used a lot, and very little if any from the RTD era (i.e. Jack), so I feel like doing some sort of catch up to understand the current state of the show.
My understanding is there will be other companions, but I don't know if they'll be regular or recurring.

Date: 2014-08-26 05:53 pm (UTC)Amy Pond, like Donna, got an early redhead break from me. I can see why Donna annoyed people from the get go and why "the girl who waited" became annoying, but they both had soft spots in my heart and more support from the writers. Clara Oswald leaves them both in the shade, as Moffat made sure we knew the Doctor(s) literally could not live without her.
I'd go ahead and catch up. Rory is worth it, and when she's not saving all the Doctors, Clara is a virtual non-entity. Either that, or people like us who've read as much fanfiction as we have under our belts are quite adroit at ignoring Ms. Mary Sue. Could go either way.
John Hurt in the anniversary special is definitely worth making Eleven make sense.

Date: 2014-08-27 11:27 am (UTC)I did not like Donna at all in her first outing, but they developed her into one of my favorite companions. When Eleven was introduced, I kept thinking Donna would knock him back down to earth, proverbially and/or literally. He was too hyper and childish for my tastes, and Donna would have had none of that. I've heard the actress would like to appear again, but considering how they left her character and Moffat's apparent allergy to characters pre-his era, I'm doubting it will happen. But it would be cool to see Capaldi and Tate snarking at each other. They could even do a wink-nudge to Donna saving Capaldi's character from the destruction of Pompeii.
I've got discs to do a catch up, but pain meds are making it difficult to stay awake long enough for a marathon. I've cut back on them, so hopefully my brain will be working at full speed again instead of suddenly wanting to go into stand-by mode.
