I'm back to being 42, now. In case anyone was wondering.

Highs and lows of my last day in my 50s:

1. Back to Weight Watchers for the first time since July 4, and am three whole pounds short of my original start weight. So, I didn't gain it all back. High or low?

2. Saw Pitch Perfect. High: still hysterically funny with actual Girl Power moments. Low: yeah, the majority of the best parts are in the trailer.

3. Could not find a V-slot bench pin for my nefarious metalworking purposes. High: will save money and cultivate maturity and patience while waiting on mail order. Low: Don't WANT to cultivate maturity and patience, frak it.

4. Low: sweated bullets trying to figure out which very expensive restaurant in which to celebrate my birthday due to not in the mood for anything but...High: PANDA EXPRESS BEIJING BEEF. Had that, saved money, went home happy.

Birthday presents to myself over the past two weeks:
Asus Nexus 7 Android Tablet on sale at Office Max for less than what amazon.com has, how often does that happen?
Nine face texturing hammer
New bench block
Craft wire multi mandrel
Copper, nickel silver and brass metal sheet for stock
Dapping block

And a month ago, with a 12 week delivery for customization:
a new recliner in a nice dark red, the link to which I cannot find in a reasonable amount of time.

You know you're old when you buy yourself clothes for your birthday:
cute boots
I think this is the skirt I got
Though it might be this one

Books that are totally research for NaNoWriMo and shouldn't really count as an orgy of spending:
The Faith Club
Varieties of Religious Experience (like to wikipedia, as I actually patronized a used book store)
The Sacred and the Profane

So, now that I've stress-eaten my way to within spitting distance of my original start weight and stress dented, well, dinged, actually, I was a good saver last year until I wasn't, my savings, I'm almost ready to be a responsible adult.

*sings Happy Birthday* Why on earth would you want to be a responsible adult? :D

Oooh, what sorts of nefarious metalworking purposes are you working on and are there pictures? *loves jewelry*

I'm glad you had a good day. :D

I plan to start small with some textured bracelets, move on to riveting and eventual world domination. Well, or maybe some nice earrings. :-)

Pix when it happens' promise.

Hey, we're the same age! Again!

Let me know how the tablet works for you. I'm teaching a class soon, and will apparently be teaching many more, about eReaders and tablet computers that can be used to read eBooks.

The Kindle pearl ink or e ink or whatever they're calling that not backlit screen really is better for long reading sessions. Other than that, my little wi fi only tablet is loads of fun. Haven't tried vidchat yet.

I'm wondering if the new e-ink readers with built-in lights (both Kindle and NOOKs have versions) are better or worse than looking at a mini-computer screen?

I know part of it is the type of light that your eyes take in that makes your brain think it's daytime, but I'm not sure if the self-lit e-ink devices are in the right wavelength.

I've had loads of fun with my Kindle Fire. I don't use it to full effect because I don't have broadband to deal with video, but I've found quite a few good apps (and m/m romances from the store and tons of fic from AO3).

I'm not sure about the backlit e-readers v. tablets like the Nexus 7 to the wavelength level, but I'll be there's a site for that. :D

A03 is one of my very favorite places on the net because they'll make a Kindle (or Nook) compatible file for you. Calibre will do it, too, but my librarian gene is faulty and my Calibre library is an unholy mess.

I'm hoping the group I'm borrowing the eReaders from for my upcoming session will manage to snag a Paperwhite and/or a NOOK Glowlight, because I know I'll be asked about them.

AO3's export function is awesome. The only problem I have is it sometimes mangles words if there's any accent marks. Lots of fun when one-half of an OTP speaks Spanish as much as English.

I've used Calibre to convert stuff, but I don't use it as an eLibrary to synch with the Kindle.

When I was mostly reading on the desktop, I just bookmarked stuff, but that was always iffy because it could easily disappear. Now I keep stuff to reread on the Fire and the rest is in the Cloud, though I do try to delete some of the Do Not Want stuff I stumble across every so often.
