[Error: unknown template qotd] Shoes, only because good boots are expensive. If I could afford boots I like, I'd wear nothing but because they hide your ankles. My ankles need hiding because I hate hose, even knee-highs. This makes a difference because I was raised to wear appropriate hosiery with certain types of shoes, and feel a tiny thrill of outlawry every time I put on Thorlo walking socks with my Very Sensible SAS laceups, then go to work. I can get away with not-dressy walking shoes because the dot com boom destroyed Dress for Success as a viable requirement in the workplace -- my employer, Major Wireless Carrier, is lucky to be able to enforce "business casual" as precluding athletic wear and shorts --but the fact remains that deep in my heart, I know I should be wearing the updated version of the dopey gray suit, some sort of neck treatment and low-heeled pumps with hose in an office environment with the type of politics mine has. I know the general fashion trend appears to sniff at old-school pantyhose, but I canNOT exit the house for work with naked legs. It simply isn't going to happen.

By the way, anyone who followed those shoe and sock links and wonder how I can possibly gripe about the price of a pair of boots: (a) you have not seen my taste in boots; and (b) boots are seasonal; SAS walking shoes (which last forever if cared for possibly) span everything. My current favorite is SAS Traveler. Works with socks, my orthotics and was more importantly on sale the day I dropped by the local store to see about special ordering navy blue Whispers.
