Seeking a specific type of slash rec
Jan. 6th, 2008 09:34 pmFor which I will trade a few of my own. ;)
So, I've discovered del.icio.us and have been dinking around instead of cooking, cleaning, writing fic or figuring out this year's gutting of my health benefits (which is depressing and angry-making anyway.)
I can find pretty much anything to match my particular mood through the simple device of search (e.g.) "sga crack" or "ncis crossover" or "hp clueless."
What I've been having a bit of trouble with is what I (and apparently no one else) call a "by arrangement" slash story. This is a story wherein Our Beloved Slash Objects cluelessly believe themselves to be having sex only to "help each other out."
Cut to the chase with my del.icio.us bookmarks:
My by_arrangement bookmarks
Or save yourself the click and read them here, individually:
Surrogate, by Annabelle Leigh
The Sentinel, NC-17 slash.
This is the first "by arrangement" story I read, if memory serves, and possibly the best example of the genre, though being first may have biased me. ;) It's a very old TS trope, apparently, wherein the senses cause trouble with Jim's sex life and Blair must...help him out.
Story is archived on Angelfire, so mind the popups. My blocker couldn't keep up with the damned things.
Out of Whack, by bone and Aristide
The Sentinel, NC-17 slash.
Unquestionably the hottest "by arrangement" story I've ever read, but the ladies set out to make it so. I think it was bone who described it as less a story than a manifestation of the authors' kinks on parade. Many, many of their kinks match my kinks. In this, Blair's "gotta have it," and has wearied of changing women like shirts. He plans to switch to casual gay encounters, which alarms Jim into...helping him out.
How Ray Got His Groove Back, by bone and Aristide
Due South, NC-17 slash (are we sensing a trend? :D)
More or less exactly the same story as "Out of Whack," except completely faithful to what I understand of the tone/tenor of the due South universe. Say, the same drivers as OoW, but with Fraser's and RayK's characteristic reactions to them. RayK has needs and Fraser...helps him out.
An Admirable Solution, by speranza
Due South, NC-17 slash
RayK and Fraser...help each other out, as only Speranza can arrange for them to do so. I'd say this is the richest "by arrangement" story I've ever read, though I'd be hard pressed to explain why. Francesca/Speranza's prose just does it for me, I guess.
Every Day in Every Way, by Seekergeek
Stargate Atlantis, NC-17 slash
This is part of the "Big Bang" challenge, so is epic in length, not that the others listed here are exactly short. In this, John accidentally molests a straight-identifying Rodney, which puts a bug in Rodney's ear about the possibilities of...helping each other out. Like most Big Bang entries, there is way more to the story than my particular kink, which (depending on mood) either enhances or dilutes the experience.
So, these are the stories that stand out in my mind when I think of "we're not in love, we're just...helping each other out." Anyone out there have others that tickle their fancies?
The only things I'm a stick in the mud about are domestic discipline, underage, non-con presented as anything remotely resembling a good idea and RPS (real person smut.) Well, ok, and sex involving anything that would otherwise result in a toilet flush, more than enough said.
edited to add: sorry, I forgot to mention I have a sense of humor failure about incest. I really don't care how pretty the Winchester or Simon boys are, they're canonically related. Actual incest is pretty f*cking far from floating my boat, and in TV-related slash fiction, just smacks of RPS to me. I'm old enough to remember the popularity of Simon and Simon cest (or whatever they called it) and realize that Wincest is taking over whole continents of the internet, and yet remain aloof.
If any of those are your kinks, well and goo--um, whatever floats your boat. It won't float mine, and I'd appreciate a warning. Oh, and you may want to skip the one that would obviously interest the FBI.
