Commenting on [livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon's lj in a thread concerning the "implosion" of BSG fandom and given a number of Kara/Lee shipper factions to join, I commented that I could get all radical and divisive about the lack of slash options, but...

...there aren't any slash pairings that interest me.

I will admit right here that an unreasonable yet unshakable belief that the PTB made Starbuck a girl to Stop Slash Before It Happens was a contributing factor to my boycott of nu-Galactica. I'm not proud of it, I don't really believe it had anything to do with anything beyond Make Ship Happen because that's screenable and slash isn't in genre TV, but there it was. I can honestly say I'm watching the show for reasons other than slash or shipability at this point and devoutly hope never to see either of them at this point.

That said...are my slash specs broken? Am I missing a really cool slash vibe on Battlestar Galactica?

note: all I've ever seen is a wholly unloving vibe suggestive that Baltar would enthusiastically exploit Gaeta's hero worship and a femslashy Thrace/Roslyn thing that had more to do with Kara's disillusionment with the Old Man. Other than those, nu-Galactica has sorted out the character interaction in suspiciously slash-unfriendly ways.

Hmmmm... unless you count the old man and Tigh (which with THAT trollop of a missus is more than likely) - not a damn hope in hell of slash.

Which I'm cool with. I'll happily slash my other favourite shows (SG-1, Doctor Who but not Atlantis yet... dunno why!) until the cats come home but BSG - no slash, no worries.

Unless there is stuff in S2 (which I haven't seen yet - damn you Skiffy!::growls loudly::) that points that way. Ain't going to happen, unless they get a lovely cute new male pilot for Lee to be slashed with.

Until that time - I'm happy as anyone can be waiting for their national cable provider to put the SG shows and BSG on!

Me, I don't like Tigh, and think he deserves whatever he gets from Cyllen.

Bill Adama is in a very tough spot as far as personal relationships are concerned. The original series set the fleet leaders in positions of near-worship by the rest of the fleet, while this series is setting up a much more adversarial culture. This Adama can't afford to form a connection with other people in the power structure; it would make him vulnerable to really ugly charges of favoritism or lack of objectivity type things.

One thing this series has done better than many other sci shows is sell me on a main character having been enough in love with his wife that a slash scenario doesn't ring true. I just can't see this Adama getting it on with his XO (or anyone else) for either of these reasons.

I'd love to see the younger Adama spend more than five seconds interacting with other men in a non-combat situation. It's like they know he's their highest slash risk. ;)

I agree with you about Lee. Would be nice but I have to ask this... Is slash really necessary to enjoy a programme?

Sure, it's a nice addition bit like someone saying 'oh, here's a huge tub of Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream - would you like some chocolate sauce on that?', but like chocolate sauce, it's a bonus, not a necessity.

But that's just me!;)

Oh, not necessary, just the gilding on some lilies. It's tough to see those pretty, pretty men running around unpaired. :)
