More to the point, I do not understand my fellow slashers' obsession with men's underwear. Or, for that matter, the perennial "boxers or briefs?" question men seem to get asked by waggish interviewers all the time.

I'm pretty sure that when we see our beloved slash objects stripped to their skivvies on screen in canon, they're usually in boxers for reasons having more to do with what a production company can get away with showing than any specific preference by the character.

Well, I thought I was sure.

Can someone please explain to me, in small words and short sentences, the significance of boxers vs. briefs?

I will be out of town all weekend and checking LJ intermittently at best. Talk amongst yourselves! :D

Personally, it's all about breathing room.

And that's all I'm willing to say.

I think it's more about actor comfort level. We have had scenes in which characters near death in the infirmary were suddenly clothed later one. Mostly because the actor didn't want to flash the world while in a fireman's carry. More's the pity. We could have at least had boxers on under the hospital gown.

We do know that Sheppard probably does wear boxers most of the time, since we see flashes of them often enough. In fact, this is such a common sight that in the SGA comics, they even draw Shep flashing his boxers as he's leaving a room at least once. Which I find hysterical that they drew him that way.

I never got the reason for the "boxers or briefs" question, other than it's a way to ask a "naughty" question without getting in trouble for it.
