I think the last and only true Big Name Fan that I can think of, who really made an impact in her fandom, was Bjo Trimble of Original Star Trek fame. She put out a compendium. Helped spearhead the writing campaign, and was *everywhere* when the first conventions were being planned and run. And she personally knew Roddenberry and others in the crew and cast.
Fans since then? They're only dreaming.

Date: 2006-12-10 02:57 am (UTC)But you're right. I can't speak for everyone who wants to be a BNF or who is considered one, but the behavior still speaks to that core need that people have. I do believe that many people feel insignificant in life and this is the way to feel important. It makes sense.
But there's the day you wake up and realize that you're just wasting your time. If you want to be a success, do something. That's the way I feel anyway.
