Some Plot Holes I Might Otherwise Have Ranted About:

1. Rodney "Soft sciences are for sissies" McKay is whale watching. Rodney "I have a million things to do, and soft sciences are for sissies" McKay is spending enough time for Elizabeth to question it on whales! Rodney "I am a scientist!" McKay miscategorized a fish as a whale! It's characterization plots hole you could fly the Daedalus through, I don't care! He's doing it with John!

OMG, I'm worse than the most brainless "damn the regs" shipper ever spawned, aren't I?

2. Was I blinded by the slasher squee and missed the evacuation, or did the Lanteans pretty much leave the Athosians out there on the mainland to pan fry in the solar radiation? Did I actually care more about last week's MacGuffin Massacre of the Ancients than I do about the poor Athosians because John and Rodney are researching the softer sciences alone together at last [sigh] in uninhabited portions of Atlantis while Teyla and Elizabeth seek out drugs so they can sleep together?

I am a wretched, bad human being.

3. Again, I might have been passed out in a slashgasmic haze and missed it completely, but shouldn't there have been a scene in which John was persuading Elizabeth and Caldwell to put the evacuation of the city and mainland on hold and risk destroying the Daedalus, killing all hands and burning up a ZPM, are good ideas over what you know were Rodney's vociferous objections, because he was still vociferating them to the point of beam-up? Was there actually a McShep PWP onscreen in lieu of a chance for Weir to play school marm and/or feed Caldwell his balls? The writers of this show cracked completely, and I didn't notice because

John Sheppard saved the world in a sweaty black T-shirt. :thud:

No, don't reckon there's a figleaf big enough for this shame.

[hangs head, hoping no one notices it's to re-watch "Echoes"]

McKay miscategorized a fish as a whale!

I took that to mean he's no better at naming things than the Ancients, so he just stuck with something familiar. He'd probably come up with something with his name in it.

A wee tangent... but this sort of backs up the idea that "Lassie" (aka Sam) was intelligent and may have indeed played a role in McKay seeing Carter in his hallucination. It even tracks with Rodney calling the whale Sam really. I didn't mind hearing her name in this episode, because we know the real reason for it... to make John jealouuuuuuuuuuus.

And was it just me, or did you have a flashback to the "Boa vs. Python" "getting busy with your boa" scene when Rodney was talking about the males having a very prominent...

Elizabeth: Never. Mind.

He's doing it with John!

Um. Duh? They just need to start some PDAs to confirm it for everyone.

[looks innocent]

Was I blinded by the slasher squee and missed the evacuation, or did the Lanteans pretty much leave the Athosians out there on the mainland to pan fry in the solar radiation?

I think there wasn't really time to evac much of anyone. John mentioned it, and could have been referring to the mainland as well.

One hour might not be enough time to evac from the mainland. I don't know if it's ever been established how far away that is, but it can't be seen from Atlantis.

But you know... squee and stuff. ;-)

But the massacre of the Ancients was just stoopid. We're left wondering exactly why they were so quick to evict everyone from Atlantis, even while saying they could return later. I know it was just a plot device so Team Atlantis could save everyone's bacon (except the Ancients who were toast), but it was still stoopid.

And Teyla and Liz were totally trying to get Kate to join them.

I am a wretched, bad human being.

Are you just noticing this?

Again, I might have been passed out in a slashgasmic haze and missed it completely,

Probably. ;) But really, John's plan working had ever so much going against it, and it wasn't done well onscreen IMO. They faced the flare head on, instead of turning the Daedalus around so there'd be the maximum surface to deflect the energy. And wasn't it ever so nice of the flare to branch off in two directions away from the planet instead of just flowing around the ship as one would expect?

John Sheppard saved the world in a sweaty black T-shirt. :thud:

And Rodney was pretty darn sweaty too. And both kind looked in need of a shave. Rwowr. And they were practically in bed with each other. And Shep was so worried when his boyfriend passed out in the jumper. And Radek in civvies. Camping with Ronon.

No, don't reckon there's a figleaf big enough for this shame.

Whatever. Ah'll be in mah bunk.

Thank heavens for YouTube. I watched the episode that has everyone squeeing and pretty much agreed with all the comments. There's nothing not to love. Comedy, pathos, drama, baby whales, and more validation for the slash than I've seen since Sentinel.
