Does anyone know off the top of their head if tretonin (a) just stands in for a Jaffa's immune system or (b) contributes to the same level of strength and endurance as an actual symbiote?

One of the authors I'm beta reading is a lot stronger on Atlantis continuity than on SG-1. ;)

If memory serves... it's a bit of both. Using Teal'c as an example - much of his strength and endurance is his, not Junior's. So while the tretonin replaces the immune system, it's not a total replacement for a larval symboite.

Hope that helps!

It's canon that it just stands in for the immune system. Teal'c has to get his strength and endurance the old-fashioned way, by working out a lot. There's a whole episode (name escapes me) where Teal'c gets all moody when he realizes this. He gets injured and has to do physical therapy etc. Jack tells him he doesn't have to rejoin the team until he gets his mojo back.

Thanks!

I know the one you're talking about. Daniel remembers stuff from being Ascended, and they have to go rescue Bra'tac and Ry'ac from being naquadah mine slaves.

Orpheus, I think?

The writers at Bridge seem to have forgotten a good deal of that continuity. Bra'tac went a looong time without his Tretonin, but in a later ep, T'Pol (or whatever they were calling the Vulcan Jaffa) collapsed within the day, or appeared to.

What a surprise, that the writers ignored continuity (snerk). Yeah, Orpheus sounds about right.

I agree with the above. Tretonin is a Goa'uld replacement. It keeps them alive since they haven't figured out a way to free the Jaffa 100%. Teal'c also noted in Orpheus that since he lost his symbiote, he had felt weaker. He figured the symbiote gave him all his strength and endurance and made him less of a man when he lost it. However, he later learned that most of that psychological and that he was the one who was strong. So, it's a little gray area ;)
