Because the memories that came as part of our original equipment don't always work as well.

There was a Stargate:Atlantis slash fic that was longish and set before the series started. It followed John and Rodney and their path first to Antarctica, then to Atlantis. There's hiking in the Antarctic wilderness, supply runs and some hysterically funny scenes in a helicopter when Shep is ferrying new scientists down to the Ancient site for he knows not what purpose.

Rings a bell for me, but I can't remember where it was posted. I thought it was on an email list though, possibly the McShep list.

V. Frustrating. I can't believe I didn't save it off! The story was brilliant.

I know it wasn't the last one, because I'm not in that comm. I skimmed the other two back to April, and I'm not seeing it. I'm thinking it was posted within the last two months.
