I have accomplished my first sponge bath and clothing change with no additional injury and am getting pretty good at this crutching around lark.

#1 helper is still percocet, though.

I've ordered no rinse shampoo and body wash from amazon. Any other useful items y'll can think of?

When I still had stitches in my back, I found body cleansing wipes very helpful. They gave me a package when I left the hospital and it was enough to last until I could take showers again. They're bigger than baby wipes and the ones I had were only mildly scented. My dad had some of the no rinse body wash and it smelled... unique. No way I could have used it, but it was generic hospital stuff, so there's probably better stuff out there.

I had mixed results with the no rinse shampoo. I could wash my hair in the sink after a few days, but the reason I asked for it was to give my fretting cousin something to do. She was coming by to visit me after my surgery during a work break, and we gave her the task of getting dry shampoo. She ended up bringing me three different kinds! Yes, she's a born worrier who overcompensates, why do you ask?

Did they say anything about propping up your leg? I got a bed wedge for my legs when my back was out, because it could take some stress off my back. Also have one for upper body as well. I had to stay in bed for way too long, and any way to change position for a bit was a good thing.

I will look into wipes for sure. There is only so long the cachet of "used by NASA" will trump "unique" scent. 😃

Mom will be here for the surgery, so there's that.

No one has really discussed leg positioning, so I've camped in the recliner for the upper body elevation and stick things under my knee as needed. Bed wedge def sounds more comfortable than wadded up laundry, tho.

Don't forget cleansing your face too. Even if you're not wearing makeup, you'll need a cleanser. I've use makeup remover wipes for years. I can recommend the "Simple" brand and Neutrogena's "Deep Clean". Both have mild scents, but the latter has salicylic acid, which some people react to, but for me it helps prevent breakouts. I keep both on hand and alternate. I've also used the generic versions from CVS, and they work well too.

Recliner is probably your best option. I would try to sit up for as long as I could stand it because staying in bed too much caused other aches. I could only use the bed wedge about an hour at a time due to the nerve pain, but I think you could use it longer.

You might want to look into getting a walker. My local pharmacy has walkers and canes people have donated, so i got a loaner from them. They didn't even charge me, possibly because my family is a frequent flyer. :) You will probably need a cane too. They've got some nice colors and patterns these days, and they're not too expensive. You can also get a folding one that doesn't take up much space when you're not using it. I've got a spare folding one in blue if you want it.

Glad to hear your mom will be there to help. Don't get stubborn about ask for help, because it's better to ask than have another accident. My mother had to help me wash my hair at the sink, but I was so grateful because it made me feel more human.
