And 60% Irish. The 23andme.com website has updated their hand-wavy "eh, mostly North European, likely British," to "60% British Irish and...handwave...lots of Northwestern European."

I am also down from 99.8% European to 99.7% European with recently added North African descent at .1% to go with my unspecified Middle Eastern at .01% and .1% South Asian (either Indian or Pakistani) with yet another handwave into the "uncategorized" pile for the nano drop of blood left.

So, I can now be proud of maybe two more ancestors breaking the jack booted ranks of bigotry. W00T

23 and Me

This is mine on the "speculative" setting.

Not terribly surprised by the British/Irish percentage, considering my father's family history, but was a bit surprised the French/German wasn't a bit higher considering my mother's family history.

The Scandinavian bit threw me for a bit, because that never come up in family history, but I figure that's Viking blood in the UK mix.

Have no clue about the Sardinian drops, and so very not shocked by the African percentage. Though I don't think it was breaking the ranks of bigotry, I fear it was totally the opposite.

Also 3% Neanderthal, which is slightly above the average of 2.7%.

I love the "broadly" this or that they use.

We all have different reason for wanting to smack an ancestor, looks like.

"Broadly" is what I expect all of it is. They look for markers that fall into general country categories, but it's just an educated guess. Though it fell pretty much how I expected, so it's a pretty good guess.

I'd really like to get my father to do the test, because a lot of it only goes by mDNA, which is passed from mother to child. Adding someone on the paternal line gets a better picture. Been thinking about paying for one of my cousins on that side of the family to take the test, because her maternal line is my paternal line.

My goal in life is to have some of my ancestors spinning like a top in their graves. Especially the ones who named their sons after KKK grand dragons. Seriously. My great-grandfather had one of those name, and went by his middle name. On the bright side, the guy he was named after later renounced the KKK.
