The cats are actively avoiding me

After a visit to the vet last Saturday, it turns out the cats both have an ear condition that requires me to get five drops of a refrigerated liquid into each ear twice a day until next Friday.

Rodney trembles when I walk up to him.

This has set relations with Sammi back about six months.

My lap is lava.

I'm about to confine mine to quarters for three days and then follow that with vet trips for two of them. I ... will soon feel your pain, doubled.

Confinement avoided by me staying home - contractor installing furnace. Lotsa thumping and bumping and scaredy cat Abe is AWOL but the rest are doing well.

No, actually. No revenge plotting that I can see.

Sammi demands a weregild of string time, by which I mean she parks herself on the shoestring in the play area and stares until I come make the string dance.

Rodney takes his drops like a quivering ball of anxiety champ, then tears the everliving crud out of the scratching post, sulks for about 30 minutes then crawls into my lap for comfort, as if I were not the author of his distress.

The parents were flabbergasted that I successfully ear dropped both cats twice a day, given that they live with a 21 pound ball of dominance and aggression that will not hold still for a flea drop between his shoulders. They shudder at the thought of what he'd do to them if they dared violate the ears.

Would you believe Houdini has never liked playing with toys? I use the stick and string with catnip treat at the end, and he immediately stares at my hand because he knows I'm moving that thing and it annoys him, so he will make it stop moving by stopping my hand. By any means necessary.

So far, we've only dealt with medication for one round, after he received a wound to the face of unknown origin. Drops down his throat twice a day. Let's just say it was so much easier on the first dose when he was still under the effects of anesthesia than the later doses when he was almost well. I could usually do it myself, but sometimes my father had to hold him down so he wouldn't bolt when he first started feeling better.
