I wish white folk would stop treating MLK and Rosa Parks like they're Magical Black Friends that white folk can compare themselves to and feel like it justifies beliefs that both would abhor.
This lady needs to get down off the cross, someone else needs the wood. To build an arbor for a gay wedding.
It amuses me that her god authorized her to get married and divorced multiple times, but she can't condone giving out marriage licenses to couples who have probably been together longer than each of her marriages lasted.
And the legislature is not in session, and it would cost a crapton of taxpayer money for a special session just to impeach her.
Quite a few people think she's not quitting due to finances rather than religion. Apparently her wages are nearly triple the average wage in the county, plus I'm certain she gets insurance and probably a retirement fund. I'm sure some fundie would be willing to hire her after this, but I doubt she'd be making $80K.
From what I've read, her conversion to being an Apostolic Christian is relatively recent, after her multiple marriages. So for her, the rules didn't apply then, and I think it also explains her fervor as a newish convert.
I knew from the first time I saw her that she was Apostolic. A lot of people were ragging on her looks, which I don't think is germane to the issue. There's quite a few Apostolic Pentecostals in my area. The women are not allowed to wear makeup or cut their hair, and they wear long skirt (often long denim skirts). As long as you don't bring up religion, they're not all that different, but that style gives them away.
Though I found out they can perm their hair back in the days when I was getting my hair colored. Apparently getting perms makes it easier for them to put their hair up so it's not hanging loose. It's not for the look, it's for practically.
I'm not kidding, the moment I saw her, I said, "Apostolic", though I wasn't quite sure which denomination. I've gotten very good at picking out who's in the more extreme religion camps and politely converse with them at the library but otherwise do not engage.
They are known for going to Goodwill and the like in the quest for long denim skirts (which I think went out of style in the 90s), if they can't make them.
Well, it technically depends on which flavor of Apostolic she's in. Most of them are so restrictive about this sort of thing, that you do not get absolution when you are saved by converting, you are living in perpetual sin and must continue to try to live the godly life now and hope it balances out of Judgment Day.
Which begs the question of whether she's OK with signing marriage licenses for people who have divorced. That's against her religion too, but apparently was never an issue during her tenure in office. I guess because you'd have to ask if someone had been divorced, but it's pretty obvious if there's a same-sex couple.
