We have the news running on two monitors at work all the time, presumably because we might find stuff out that affects the network prior to the network alarms going off. (The spirit of Ma Bell sniffs disdainfully.)
When I went up to replenish the caffeine supply, there was a piece running about a rally to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State capitol building, opposed, of course by people claiming it's a heritage thing.
Heritage.
Okay, here's the thing. Most (if not all) of the people claiming the flag represents their heritage? European origins. If we really want to get medieval on heritage's ass, can we remember the fact that the Confederate flag is a losing war banner? It flew over a nation for one war, which that nation lost really, really hard and would lose again if the remains of that nation decided to start shit.
Loser. Flag.
Why are we even still having this discussion?

It should be a small part of the overall state flag to indicate that part of history (such as several state and country flags having imagery of the Union Jack, even the State of Hawaii), but it's not nearly as inflammatory as the battle flag.
If the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park can use the correct CSA flag, then everyone else can too. I bet most of the "Heritage!" people wouldn't even recognize it.
