"We encourage our volunteers to adhere to the 5/2/1 rule. Get a minimum of five hours of sleep, two meals, and one shower every day, please. It works for everyone."

(I especially love the "please.")

Dragoncon is getting serious about improving the con experience. Not only does the 2014 app come with a 'survival guide,' but there is a newbie meetup Thursday afternoon with a hotel tour and, like, three hour q&a with experience con staffers.

Where was this my first DC? Oh, right...I had [livejournal.com profile] nialla42 shepherding my newbie ass with firm lovingkindness. :D Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] nialla42!

I love that rule, and wish more cons would post it, even if it's not really enforceable. Though at least it could give them something to point to if someone was particularly fragrant.

IIRC, they had a change in management. Essentially bought out one of the founders who wasn't active for years due to legal problems related to child molestation. Getting rid of him completely allowed them to refocus their efforts on the con.

Enjoy! Truly wish I was there instead of laid up for yet more weeks.

Pity some non-newbies are probably not reading the survival guide.

I haven't been following that ghastly man's tacky little drama all that closely, though I had heard of it. I'm glad he's out of the picture. It can only help the con.

I keep switching between panels that feature Adam Baldwin and ones that feature Joe Flanigan. I WANT MAN CANDY.

Yes, I plan to enjoy thoroughly. One hopes the surgery has at least put a light at the end of the laid up tunnel.

He kept clinging on to the con, to the point where even though he wasn't involved, he was getting money as a founder of the corporation. It was an ugly stain hanging above the con, and they had to do some legal maneuvers to finally ditch him.

If it was me, I'd go for Flanagan, mainly because I saw Baldwin at my last con and haven't seen Joe in ages.

Someone put a train in my recovery tunnel. I think we'll come out ok, but my library board is going to have to hustle, because there's no hustling in my near future. I think they're pissed off enough to manage it, because they know it was done on purpose while I'm on medical leave.

(scampers to your journal, fails to see train-related update, unless it's to do with the crap already in progress.) Sorry to hear about unscheduled and unneeded trains in the tunnel.

Just checked my schedule, and it is a little Stargate heavy, most likely because those panels are all at 2:30 in big rooms and I most certainly won't have the intestinal fortitude to wait out the line for more than one of them. I'm definitely doing whatever's necessary to get into The Last Ship panel on Sunday, though. Baldwin is there and it's my current favorite show, though I'm pretty sure Manhattan is closer to reality. :D

I haven't posted about the train yet, nor even details of the medical stuff. Today is the first day I've been able to sit in the recliner and use my old netbook to post anything. Trying to catch up with comment backlog.

The train is work related, despite me being technically unable to work. Essentially the City wants to completely change how we've been doing our finances dating back to at least 1978. Email was sent out Monday at 5:35 p.m., which is after library hours if I was working, with a mention of a meeting about it the next day, and how it would all have to be turned in by Monday. I've had to turn it over to the board members. I don't ask much of them, so they're earning their volunteer cred with this one.

The Last Ship panel should be interesting. Season one is over and we know we're getting another, so there might be some good hints as to the direction next year.

What's your thoughts on Manhattan? I keep coming away wanting to see a documentary about the secret towns and those who lived there. I've seen tidbits over the years, but I'd love to get more details.

I think I'm having a shallow summer moment. The thrill-a-minute Michael Bay show grabbed me right away, but I haven't really gotten all the way through ep 2 of considerably thinkier Manhattan.

Is the city committed to closing the library or something? That's a lot of shenanigans while you're out.

I wish I could go! I got there once, and I have always wanted to go back.

5/2/1 sounds pretty smart, especially for some of those barely there costumes. For everyone concerned. :D

Icon love, BTW. The dogs I grew up with were particularly adept at that expression. (Corgi & a Llasa Apso.)

I love this perq of living in Atlanta!
