I am Appalled

One of the many, many tenets of my version of Geek Orthodoxy is that Vampires Don't Sparkle.

Imagine my chagrin, then, to make it about 2/3rds of the way through the audio version of The Passage by Justin Cronin only to realize that I am enjoying the bejeezus out of a story involving vampires who glow. In the dark. Bio-luminescently, but still. They GLOW.

At least none of them wear pettable boots. (ducks, flees)

As long as they don't actually *sparkle* and do stalkery things like look at a girl while she's sleeping and doesn't know it.

OMG they kill a LOT. I'm seriously considering full list for The Twelve rather than waiting for my credit to roll over.

However, virals glowing makes even less sense than Cullen sparkling when I think about it. Weren't they meant to be awesomely stealth super-soldiers? How does glowing in the dark support that mission?? It's entirely possible the stealth bit was in my own mind, of course, and they were always meant to creep people the hell out.
