Who is JOSEPH KONY?

He is THE WORST LIVING CRIMINAL. He abducts children and makes them use guns to kill their own parents. He takes girls and forces them to be sex slaves. He calls his abducted children the Lord’s Resistance Army, AKA the LRA. He has abducted over 30,000 children and forced them to be child soldiers in Central Africa. He remains at large because he is INVISIBLE to the world. FEW know his name, even FEWER know his crimes. WE ARE MAKING HIM FAMOUS! Because when he is, the world will unite against him and demand his arrest.

We can help make a change. We can make a difference.

I feel so inspired. I feel the need to help and make a difference. This has to happen in 2012. We can’t let him go around and keep doing this to children in Central Africa. Let’s make his name known so he can be stopped. HE CAN NO LONGER BE INVISIBLE!

That site certainly explains why the person from whose LJ I grabbed the link isn't giving any money to invisible Children. I was googling to find out if Kony even existed and and had the indictment, both of which turned out to be true.

The end of the 27 minute movie, though, indicates that the "make Kony famous" business is as much about keeping interested parties in the US government interested in maintaining a presence in Uganda to arrest this guy. I'm still a little twitchy about why it all has to happen in 2012, but if keeping a spotlight focused on a guy indicted for genocide (and other things) gets his ass dead or in a cell, I'll help spread the viral video.

I'm all for making people aware, I just don't want people giving to an organization that doesn't appear qualified to actually get money to those who need it.

They want to buy weapons. Which reminds me of the many US-made weapons we supplied to Bin Laden in his war against the Soviets, that were then turn on our troops along with Soviet-made stuff as well. That makes me very leery of them right off the bat.

So awareness, yay, full awareness of the organization advocating weaponry purchases with what doesn't go into their own pockets, even better yay.
