(am at work and must get back to it -- there will be a delay in fixing the whack HTML this time, sorry.)
So, pretty much every non-supervisory job in network at Carnivorous Wireless Provider (motto: "Please stand still while we eat you; it's neater that way,") now requires CCNA certification.

I've priced training at local schools, on Amazon going the book route and inquired about Cisco's own training, which was rumored to be eye-popping.

There really ought to be something between "For Dummies" and draining my wallet on classes that run eight hours a week for four weeks and likely run roughshod over those not naturally inclined to this sort of strictly technical claptrap and I'll be you, my flist, can help me find it.

I thought about going back to school, but just to go to the local college, it's $1000 for just one class, and that's JUST the price of the class. That doesn't cover the cost of books or anything else. I'm not eligible for the HOPE either.

Friend of mine is going to school on the HOPE. She's a year older than me, and this is her first time at college. She says she feels liked the 'old woman' since she's in her 40's and more than half of everyone she goes to school with is much younger. She's worked with stuff like repairing copiers and fax machines and computers, but she could never get the big bucks because she didn't have a certificate. She's getting it now at Atlanta Area Tech.

Could you get on the HOPE or maybe apply for some other kind of scholarship? What about a grant of some sort? My friend was unemployed, and the unemployment office helped her get a grant.

I haven't researched HOPE before, but if it's at all dependent on grades, this is going to be out of my pocket. :D

I've been poking around the For Dummies book, and despair of ever being able to muster enough interest in the subject to pass a test, even though network support is my living. I was good at International Relations back during the Cold War; why did Mr. Gorbachev have to go and tear down that wall? (wails)
