Share the what, now?
Sep. 6th, 2010 08:15 pmI just realized that one of my favorite slash sites has a "Share the porn" function that enables the user to link it to their Twitter and Facebook accounts.
(Tries to picture Holy Roller Aunt following that link)
(Pictures Mother following that link)
(passes out cold without even going there on two former bosses and about six current peers, never mind possible future employers following that link)
(is returned to consciousness by the insistent mrrowz of hungry cats)
OMG WHO WOULD DO THAT? Or am a frightened little bunny rabbit for even asking?
edited to clarify: by "that" I mean "link their real life profile to varied, possibly
copyright infringing pornography" (the site runs from the most shameless schmoop imaginable to some BDSM I was surprised to find I liked, being quite the vanilla girl most of the time) and did not mean "who would provide the opportunity to link (see above) to people's real world identities."

Date: 2010-09-07 01:53 am (UTC)I know a lot of people create fake FB identities to keep fannish and real life stuff separate, just like they do elsewhere. I just haven't had enough interest to bother though. I don't get the whole "share every minute detail of my life with the world" thing. I like to hang with my fannish peeps to get away from the world.
I guess I'm old and cranky, but I get irritated when companies do promotions that are only available via FB. It's because FB is notorious for privacy violations and companies want to harvest our data. They can stay the hell off my lawn. Hmm... diagnosis of old and cranky confirmed.
Outside of you and our two mutual con buddies, nobody IRL knows about my slash addiction. A few know I'm aware of what it is; teen volunteers who've mentioned yaoi manga and were mildly surprised I knew what it was. I like to keep them on their toes. When they know I'm aware, they're less likely to pull stunts. ;)

Date: 2010-09-16 11:50 am (UTC)I was surprised to see people using it but then maybe not. I have a lot of Facebook friends on my Keira Facebook and they are pretty shameless about "liking" my posts and talking to me on there.
The "Share the Porn" wording is a customizable thing. I think it used to say just "Share on" and then all of those links and since I'm not ashamed of what my stuff is -- I changed it to something more honest.

Date: 2010-09-16 01:09 pm (UTC)I got a fairly odd look from a co-worker who googled my real name and found some totally gen fanfic I wrote on Anita Blake: Vampire hunter in my early days on the net. In her mind, it fell into the "total waste of time" category. I try to imagine what would happen if she knew any of my internet pseuds and discovered my participation in the NC-17 world of The Sentinel (which, by the way, is how I found you originally.)
Yes, I edited a Slash Virtual Season. :D Not well, mind you, but I did it!
