I feel very badly for any slash fan who was offended, given that I nearly passed out laughing at the sequence from the season 5 premiere of Supernatural behind the cut. I'm sorry, folks, but if you're going to pretend you've never met this fan in some form or other (or quite possibly are this fan, given that I can't guarantee my own conduct around Joe Flanigan and am quite likely to channel Becky) then you are likely in deep, dark denial.

Or, the only scene a slash fan need watch:

I can't say that I was actually offended. I was more shocked that Kripke dared to break the cardinal rule again.

You don't talk about slash.

And then he actually had Becky interact with the reality of her obsession. It was truly forbidden territory.

*snerk*

I have to admit to a split second's cognitive dissonance: is this RPS? Then I replayed the little "No" at the end about five times and stopped worrying about that and started worrying about breathing. :D Oh, and the "....and you're not what I pictured."

The first rule of Slash is you do not talk about Slash.

[I need that on a button or something *g*]

I sense there's starting to be wiggle room when it's the copyright holder talking to us and not the other way round. Still...freaky.

I'm not into the Wincest or RPS for the show, so it didn't personally offend me on that level, but I do get a bit weirded out over TPTB not only knowing about fandom stuff, but using it in the show. I iz old skool.

I thought it was funny, but I can't quite make out if Kripke is just amused by the whole fannish thing, icked out, or what. In other words, was he laughing at us or with us?

That's what made me a bit uncertain as to how to feel (aside from breaking the 'what happens in slashdom, stays in slashdom' rule) I mean, if this were Mallozzi, I'd know it was meant as a jab at fans. I don't know what Kripke's intent was, tho.

I think that's my issue as well. Past history in a specific fandom is coloring how I should feel about this one instance.

Which is a bit odd really, since that fandom, with all of two shows, is the only one in which I've felt TPTB have outright spit on fans in general and slashers in particular. The rest have either ignored us, or put in things subtle enough non-fans wouldn't notice anything. This wasn't exactly subtle, so I wonder what non-fannish viewers thought about it?

Since Becky contributed materially (and positively) to moving the plot in between bouts of the crazies, I'm going with "laughing with us." :D Plus, she took the piss out of a couple of self-confident young men. As long as the beloved slash objects are as funny as the slasher, I'm good with it.

I'm more old skool than not, but if the choice is C&D vs. fun-poking, I'll go with the mockery.

ROFL, that is really funny. I missed the first half-hour of the show.

Nialla, I think it's a combination of all the things you listed. And the actors probably had input into the fan, too, seeing as whacked out so many of them are (but not you all, of course!).

At the end of the hour, I got the feeling they were doubling and tripling up on the hilarity to balance the grim quotient in the rest. Even so, I hope to see Becky and Edlund again sometime during the rest of the season.

I have to admit I cringed and wanted to yell "we're not (all) like that!!!" I did laugh, tho, especially when Becky drooled all over Sam, then turned to Dean with obvious disappointment...and if that doesn't prove she's crazy, I don't know what will ;-)

I might have been more incensed had I not just spent three days at Dragon*con diligently stalking Joe Flanigan for the purposes of volunteering in his harem.

Totally with you on the Dean thing.

Also...CLAVICLE???? [wheeze]

Came across a review over at EW, which has this to say about Becky:

"She’s a ticklingly good creation by Kripke, hunched over her keyboard tapping out fan-fiction in which Sam and Dean are “husky-voiced” lovers. She also served as a messenger for some key information about “the sword of Michael,” Michael being the angel who “commands the heavenly host” and can help defeat Lucifer."
