There's been several variations of this in multiple states where the Old Men Concerned About "Women's Health Issues" have been on the agenda.
Usually introduced by female representatives, but sometimes also co-sponsored by men sick of the bullshit. They know it will never pass, but they are making a point by highlighting the hypocrisy. Too bad the majority of the Old Men have absolutely no sense of irony and think it's no time for such nonsense when they're doing such serious business protecting women and the unborn.
Even my father has said his bullshit detector has pretty much exploded over the "women's health" smokescreen. He knows I was on hormone therapy (and I make a point of calling it that because it points out there are other uses besides BC) for over a year to finally deal with anemia that had been plaguing me for most of my adult life. So when he was ranting about Limbaugh's "slut" and "prostitute" crap, I said in a dead serious way, "I'm sorry, Dad, but I was a slut and a prostitute because I was anemic." I thought he was going to strain his eyeballs with all that rolling around.
Considering how Limbaugh was going on like BC was just like ID pills -- you take one when you want to have sex -- I'm thinking it's a reflection on how little sex education we have in this country. I'm shocked more people don't believe babies are delivered by storks or found under cabbage leaves.
I'm also weirdly reminded about how Concerned White Men are using the "protecting women from themselves" card again. One of the reasons cited for not allowing women the right to vote is it was far too complicated for the lady brain, so not allowing them to vote was for their own safety.
