I spend a lot of time not thinking about the big quake we're due for out here, or about what would happen if it occurs while I'm at work and my cats are across two-three bridges that may or may not exist after the earth stops moving.

Go bags are actually pretty easy. One near the door at home, one in your car, and one in your desk. If your state steadfastly past the crazy, there's a lot of free advice from the prepper community.

For non-crazy practicality, there's FEMA at ready.gov
